Wictory Wednesday - The hounds have been released. The former Clintonites are using book deals and congressional testimony to absolve themselves of blame for the growth of international terrorism under their watch. Richard Clarke's book and Madeleine Albright's disgraceful testimony before the September 11 commission show just how far the former Clinton officials are willing to go in order to cover for the former president while at the same time criticizing the current occupant of the White House.
The current nastiness of politics is enough to make one forget that it was not always so. The press has never been objective, but was at least consistent in the types of stories it thought harmful to a candidate. Former administration officials were never complimentary to their successors, but they were at least truthful in their criticism. And once upon a time, a man challenging the president of the United States for his office welcomed a debate, instead of calling every criticism a "negative" attack and having those accusations legitimized by an overly compliant press corps.
