AUTHOR: Slublog DATE: 3/25/2004 09:25:00 AM ----- BODY: Clarke: Going, Going... - On Tuesday I went to Borders to look around and buy a CD for my wife. As I was waiting in line, I noticed two people holding copies of Richard Clarke's new book, "Against All Enemies." I certainly hope they've read the book by now, because Clarke's performance on the stand yesterday and the release of a transcript of his conversation with reporters in 2003 does little to enhance the credibility of the man who wrote it. Clarke's biggest mistake yesterday was saying that the Clinton administration had "no higher priority" than fighting terror. Even the most ardent Clinton partisan would have trouble buying that spin. In Clinton's two terms, many things took priority over terrorism - health care, gays in the military, school uniforms, gun control, bimbo eruptions, etc... The Clinton administration took no serious action to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. They fired some cruise missiles into empty tents and called it good once and are hanging their entire argument on that one action. Clarke is trying to sell a book and hurt George W. Bush. It will be interesting to see if Kerry takes the Clarke bait and criticizes Bush based on the book, or gets smart and ignores the former terrorism chief. --------
