Pull It? - Opponents of Question 1A here in Maine want an ad supporting the referendum pulled from the air, calling it "deceptive and misleading." The referendum is intended to force the legislature to uphold its promise to fund 55 percent of education funding. Passage of this referendum question, according to the ad, will mean a reduction in property taxes by as much as 15 percent.
Frankly, I have my doubts about the validity of this claim. However, asking the MMA to pull the ad is wrong. Whatever happened to the idea of challenging your opponent's claims with those of your own instead of looking to muzzle them? Free speech in this country has become a domain of the afflicted. Those with grievances are protected from the ideas of others instead of rising up to debate those ideas. The claims in the MMA ad may be wrong. Tell us why.
